Students will be able to compare the momentum of different objects and use the impulse-momentum theorem to explain how safety devices work.

Bellwork:

During a game of kickball, a 1.45 kg ball approaches a player at a velocity of 4 m/s east.  If the player kicks the ball and it leaves their foot at a velocity of 7 m/s west, what was the ball's change in momentum?  If the time of the kick was measured to be 0.21 s, what was the force applied to the ball during the kick?
